Printer Fuckup!

So there we are again. I just try to printout an application form from my laptop, and my printer is stuck on pause. Totally evil, I tell you. As if being at work 'till 21:00 wasn't enough (we had a training today, and even I had to stay. Go figure.), now that damned thing doesn't want to print from my laptop. The PC is fine, but the laptop, nooooo. That's a first, and I hope it will be the last for a long, long time.

Anyways, it seems I have a following of two. Two people started their blog just today/yesterday, and I'm partly to blame. They're over here and here, and they live very close to my place. I am contagious, you see?

Well, I was hoping on bringing you such bad news, but it's currently a bit of coprolite, and I'm hoping to fix it soon.

IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALIVE!

I managed the printout! And there was much rejoicing!

Enough movie-quotes, though. Back to printing.

Done! Yahoo!

And now back to important business. I wish my two blog-pupils the best of luck. Remember, it's a tough world out there.

And on that positive note, I leave you!

See ya!

What? Nothing to read?

Well, first things first: One Less Day at work. Just 14 left now. It's coming closer. And it's getting easier to motivate myself in the morning, although I have to say I was pretty fucking tired around 3 pm. My legs were actually trying to kill me. I mean it. Yesterday was the first night in over a week that I went to bed early (before 1 am), but it didn't help, it seems.

Monday means shopping today. I didn't really need a lot, but I went anyway. I have my reasons, you know.

It's nice how she actually complained about the fact that I didn't buy a magazine today. She has the habit of leafing through my reading material while scanning my products (didn't I mention this already?), but today I didn't have any reading material for her. Or for me, for that matter. But, Wednesday should make up for that.

Another thing: it seems her chair was broken. She was standing behind the counter, complaining about the low quality of the seating. I offered to bring her another one, but I don't even think it would have been practically possible to bring one over. At least she leads an eventful life, nothing like that ever happens to me. I never break chairs.

Except for the one in my room, which is left with 3 legs. But it still stands firm, if you don't move to much. Or, you know, sit on it.

I would also like to thank jzz for minding his own business. He knows what I'm talking about.

Sadly, this just about covers my adventures for today, so as they say in this country:

"To the Loo!"

No cable horror.

Sweet sweet Sunday. I was planning on not doing a lot, I ended up doing even less then that because we lost our cable connection for a couple of hours. Total bloody mess that was, no internet connection, no tv, so no research of any kind. So I started on a new book. Which was nice.

Reading is fun! Especially if the subject is.

Apart from that, well, you know, nothing at all. So I'm not going to keep you here all night, and say that I'll tell you more when there's more to be told.

And with that, I leave you.

Reading in the park

Saturday. Nice. I didn't leave my bed till noon, which is something a man could get used to very easily. After that I took my sweet time getting up. Breakfast (if you can still call it that), that DVD I still had to watch from the astro-mag (het Heelal, remember?), Formula 1 qualifying, followed by some more shopping. I bought myself Astronomy magazine, which is also a nice little read.

I read it in the park, enjoying the sun. Nice little star, that is. I vote for having another one, just to keep the temperature at a tolerable level.

Apart from that, it was purely relaxing. Watching movies again all night (I'm on Lawrence of Arabia right now), reading some more, keeping myself busy.

That just about covers it, though. So there. If you don't like it, you know how to contact me, right?

Love, me!

Friday night TV marathon!

Well, work was a mess today. Everybody all stressed out over nothing. Glad the week's over.

'Twas warm today. That's a good thing. Can't have enough Kelvins to go around, you know. 300 K should be the minimum by law.

Spent the night at home. Watching Charmed, Lost and Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail in that order. That last one was a DVD, borrowed from one of my esteemed colleagues. Always good to crack me up, they are!

I can now take the rest of the weekend to do absolutely jack. With the temperature announced for tomorrow, that should be, to say it in laymen's terms, swell!

But, more on that will follow. For now, this'll have to do. Don't cry now, I promiss I'll be back soon.

See ya!

Rambling of a Madman

So, the new dude was at work today. They went for an older chap, and it remains to be seen if he can be taught sufficiently to actually replace me, but hey, that's not my problem, is it?

There were preparations being made for tomorrow, there's going to be a lot of demonstrations of products around a mediterranean theme. Let's just hope they're not going to use it as an excuse to play annoying music all day, they do that already. And seeing as how our receptionist started dancing on the five notes we heard today, I fear the worst. With all that, we don't even know for sure that there are actually going to be a lot of clients tomorrow. It all remains to be seen.

Anyways, bad news on the job-front. I received two rejections in the mail today, one of them from an application I had completely forgotten about already, so long was it since I sent it. Tough luck, but try again, right?

Well, one more day, and the week is over. It's going to be fun this weekend, the sun should be shining, so I might actually go outside for a bit. That's might, mind you. I'll tell you more on that this weekend.

I believe that just about covers it for today. I'll see you all later.

Bye!

Wednesday shopping spree.

So, it appears that the replacement-dude starts tomorrow. Let's see if he's up to it, shall we? I have my doubts that he will be able to replace my fantastic talents (this is sarcasm, not an ego), but I'll have to do my best to guide him along.

So today was shopping day. I bought the only Dutch Nintendo-specialised mag, which is always a nice little read, Nintendogs seems a very very very very [...] very very fun, ehm, "thing", to buy. Have. Play. Live with. Or something.

I had my cashier (she usually skims through my mags while scanning the articles) declaring herself to be "slightly strange sometimes as well", when I asked her if she approved of that particular one. Maybe I should tell her that her references are the wrong ones. For you see, you (i.e. the person saying it) are not crazy, the rest of the world is. All you have to do to realize that, is acknowledge the fact that you are the standard by which you measure.

Ergo, we are all perfectly normal, and we are all completely insane simultaneously. And there was much rejoicing (just to prove my point)!

On that note, I leave you be.

Go in peace!

Are you resigning or applying?

So today, I had finally had a reaction from my current employers to the job-application I sent them the very day I handed over my resignation papers. At last, they decided to actually say something! Call the newspapers, please!

Anyways, I can now rest in peace, for I have a reason I can live with: They felt I was unable to undo the products of their incompetence! Which, in all fairness, would indeed be a rather miraculous thing to do. Good thing there's only 18 days remaining...

Notice the countdown?

So now, all that's remaining is an attempt to educate my future ex-colleagues, so they manage to survive without me. And I say, this challenge is an immense one. I mean, most of them don't even understand why time slows down the faster you go. I even tried explaining the nature of a Relativistic 4-dimensional spacetime, but they just won't grasp it.

Imagine what would have happened if I had introduced the extra curled-up dimensions required in Superstring theory!

I guess cosmology is just too much for them. Ah well.

Now, I'm getting ready for tomorrow. After tomorrow, the week's as good as over, for Thursdays and Fridays don't count as work for me. Those days are over way too soon, before I even realise they've begun, so I can relax then. On top of that, Wednesday is grocery-day (remember the small backpack?), yay!

But more on Wednesday on Wednesday, right?

Ciao!

Monday, May 23, 2005

19 days and no events.

Well, not much news today. One less day at work, one more trip to the shop (I have only a small backpack...) and another evening spent on the net reading science vs. creation stuff, which is, as I have said before, always a fun thing to do.

So a bit of news then:

Apparently, in this country, women have a higher success rate running their companies. That is, of all women running companies, the bankrupcy percentage was lower then for companies ran by men. The mess they left behind if they did go bankrupt was also smaller. So much for male superiority!

Also, some politician here (what's her name again...) found it necessary to copycat Yankee Chistian Fundamentalists, and wanted to start a creation vs. evolution debate in this country. How about actually starting to educate the kids properly, before teaching them such non-sense, would you please?

No wonder scholar level is dropping...

Well, that's it for today, have fun!

Sunday, May 22, 2005

Resting. Always nice.

Gotta love Sundays, right? Waking up late, taking a nice, hot shower, and not doing anything but reading a funny little piece of dissection of creationist ideas. Always good for a laugh, which could be stopped if creationists decided to actually use scientific evidence to push their ideas.

Some of the argumentation used there, are just laughable. My personal library is not as complete as I would like it to be, and I never had a University-level education on the subject matter, but almost all the things claimed were just too simple to dispose of. But don't take my word for it, read it for yourself. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Well, seeing as that was the large part of my day today, I'll be leaving you with this.

Ta!

A day on the job

Always nice to work on a Saturday. For starters, I overslept due to excessive use of the internet last night, so I was late. I can't help it if reading science vs. creation debates is more interesting than the concept of getting up early the next morning, can I? Anyways, it should be my last Saturday at my current job, so there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Another go at the supermarket today, got the newspaper, still have to look if there are any interesting jobs in it. Important thing is, I saw my cashier again! So, not all was lost today, it seems!

Spent the rest of the night continuing my web-based readings. I should really start getting through my back-log of magazines as well, but that's something that can wait for a short bit. I'm slowly wading through it all, though.

Also, I'm holding a small movie-marathon. After seeing Monkeybone, followed by Frailty, I'm now down to Volcano High. None of these movies made any sense, though!

Anyways, that'll be it for now, see ya!

Darwin

Today on the news I heard the Christian Fundamentalists in the States had a nice idea for their recently elected monkey: since his re-election dependen so badly on them, it is only fair he does something for them, right? Anyway, the plan is to remove
Darwin's theory of Evolution from all known schoolbooks, especially the biology ones. Instead, creationism should be given back it's "rightful place as a science". I'm sure they have their reasons to be so tolerant as to force their world view upon everybody else, especially if their argumentation is so convincing.

How about this: "The theory of evolution is just that, a theory!"

So's the theory of relativity, both special and general. Oh, and the theory of gravity, and just about any other scientific, well, theory. It's just a term they use, people. It's not removed when proven.

"There is no proof, and there never will be proof, of evolution!"

Of course no human will ever be able to see evolution first hand. We don't live for millions of years. Of course there are large gaps in the fossil record, not every single creature that has ever lived became fossilised. And "sudden appearance, no change, sudden disappearance", to me, is not Divine creation, but a strong point for Gouldian evolution over the Dawkins view.

And talking about proof: I still have to find the first scientific proof that any God even exists, let alone meddles with anything.

It may be true that there is still no decisive proof either way. Therefore, for people to be able to get a complete picture of the subject, they should know about both the Creationist view, and the Evolutionary view. But who's to even say Christian view on creation is the one to go by? There are more religions than just the one.

My humble opinion is, let people believe in Creation if they feel more comfortable with it, but don't shut out evolution because of that. In the end, it's just a matter of what you would rather believe in, and not everyone is of the opinion evolution is a bad thing.

If you can't live with the fact your ancestors were monkeys, you don't get evolution anyways. We share a common ancestor, and that's it. Besides, you don't need to be speciffically designed to be special, evolution tells me at least, that every living creature is as special as the next one. And I believe that may be an even nobler view than a "man created to rule over the animals".

Thursday, May 19, 2005

Well, here we go again.

Thursdays. I start work late, so I sleep in. Or so I thought...

Due to repairs to the building I live in, there was excessive noise from, I'd say, 8 AM. Shit.

I replied with a nice piece from my personal music collection! Darkcore 6, the Drokz mix. Nice, hard, always fun to listen!

So, after starting the day on a lesser note (remember, I was planning to watch that DVD), and leaving for work with a bad headache due to wakingup too early, I found the whole day not going quite as smoothly as it should have. I kept dropping everything, couldn't find the things I was looking for, fun stuff like that.

Anyways, due to a lack of worthy events, I think I'm not going on too long for now. When something more interresting comes along, you'll probably be the first to know!

See ya!

Star Wars Ep. III

Well, I just got back from the movies, my sis got us tickets for Revenge of the Sith. I was actually impressed, glad that the atmosphere was as dark as it should have been. Shame they had to show Jar-Jar at the end, though. He still sucks, even though he doesn't say anything. His very presence is just... annoying...

Also, and this is very important, Yoda should coma as a playable character in the next Soul Calibur game. His Lightsabre skills are impressive, to say the least. And boy, can he jump!

I'm not going to tell the whole tale here, there must be over a thousand places where you can get every bit of info you could want. I just wanted to say that I liked it.

I did some grocery shopping today, too. The shop was almost out of bread, so I had to go for the overly healthy ones that no-one in their right minds would ever consider buying. Got my bi-weekly (or should that be fortnightly?) astronomy magazine called Het Heelal, and I'm gonna watch the free DVD in the morning, before leaving for work. Those little discs are always fun to watch.

Speaking of work, like I said last night, I'm leaving there soon. My last day is actually going to be on June 17th, a Friday, thank God! Sent out another jobapplication this morning, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to work out well, for the money will be running out somewhere around, well, mid-August if I don't find anything. Which would be, you know, a bad thing.

But why am I talking about going shopping, you might ask? Well, that's a very good question. By this point already, you might be questioning my sanity. Rightly so, I might add. Well, fact of the matter is, my regular cashier wasn't there, today. How could she do this to me? I now had to find another one, but it's just not the same. My whole shopping experience was disturbed, it's just, you know, less fun.

Anyway, enough ranting today. I'll try to keep you posted.

Till next time!

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

Wow! This is new!

Well, I just wonder what's going to happen here! A new blog, mine, in fact, and no idea why I'm actually doing this...

I guess I just needed a space for myself to tell people (or no-one, probably...) what's going on in my life. Which usually isn't all that much, but lately has been speeding up a bit.

For you see, I recently decided to quit my job. Or, to put it more specifically, I did quit my job. I only have four more weeks to go there, and am frantically seeking a new employ. So good luck to me then!

On top of that, I find my main interest shifting from video-games and manga, to, believe it or not, cosmology and astrophysics. Actually, it's more a return to my childhood dreams, but I have this feeling it's going to be a fully fledged hobby soon. Well, as soon as I can afford it, basically.

But, if you run one of the shops where I go for either my games or my manga, don't worry! I'll always need some things to do when I'm in less serious a mood.

Well, for a start, I'm leaving it here. Let's see how often and when it gets updated, and hey, you'll just have to wait if you really want to get to know me! Even though I really don't know why you would want that...
